Filmmaker Talks
October 2024
From time to time, I am invited to speak at organizations and gurdwaras to present the story of how Dalip Singh Saund won his election in 1956. When possible, I set up educational posters.
I am excited to do this because Saund and Cochran are still not widely known, even though their race opens up a fascinating chapter of American political history. People I meet are often surprised that they did not know this story, and these conversations help clarify how I will tell it in the film.
Most recently, I was invited to give a presentation to the South Asian and Asian affinity groups at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Washington, D.C. and at Froomira in Peoria, IL. I also set up educational posters and attended a Kabaddi World Cup Event in Peoria, IL, hosted by the Sher-E-Punjab Sports Club Midwest Chicago.
In late August, I spoke at the Sikh Temple of WI. If you subscribe to my newsletter, you may recall that Mr. Sarwan Singh Bolina (from Schaumburg, IL) generously spearheaded a fundraising campaign for the documentary in Palatine, IL last year. He recently facilitated an invitation for me to present Saund’s story at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin in Oak Creek and to do some additional fundraising. There, I received 63 new donations from the Oak Creek sangat and this is the most I have raised in a single day to date! I am deeply grateful for this support and would like in particular to thank the following individuals who supported our efforts on that day – Dr. Pardeep Gill, Dr. Inderbir Gill, Inderjeet Singh Dhillon, Beant S. Bhoparai, Harwinder Paul Singh, and Dr. Harcharan S. Gill.

CALL TO ACTION: Consider inviting me to speak at your next event! Please also consider making a tax-deductible donation via our fiscal sponsor The Center for Independent Documentary here to support the production of this film.
